The Alarcon Clinical Education Symposia is named in honor of Nancy Alarcon and the critical role she played in the development of the clinical education program in the department as well as in developing this CE series. Nancy was on the faculty of the Department of Speech & Hearing Sciences for 30 years, serving as the Clinic Director for the last 20 years as well as the Director of Clinical Education for the last 5 years before retiring in 2019. Clinical education was just one of Nancy's many professional passions. Nancy tirelessly developed, taught, presented on, and lobbied for high quality clinical education at the national, state, and local levels, and especially within UW SPHSC. Her dedication to SPHSC students and faculty, as well as to our community clinical educators is endless, amd we still sometimes interrupt her retirement with a request for a consultation or convincing her to present at one of these workshops! We are proud to rename this continuing education series in honor of Nancy and the legacy she created at the University of Washington. We plan to continue and expand our CE opportunities in clinical education under the umbrella of The Alarcon Clinical Education Symposia with the goal of maintaining the high standards set by Nancy. Most of our offerings include ASHA CEUs and OSPI CECHs, and are free of charge to our affiliated clinical educators who are so generous with their time in providing our students with essential in-the-field clinical education opportunities.
