The University of Washington Speech & Hearing Clinic Hearing Aid Assistance Program (HAAP) supports adults with limited financial resources in obtaining hearing healthcare and hearing technology.
Eligible individuals may receive refurbished hearing aids donated to the program. Hearing aids are selected based on an individual’s hearing and communication needs.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have a documented hearing loss
- Demonstrate financial need
How is financial need determined?
Financial need is generally defined as an annual gross household income at or below 250% of the current Federal Poverty Guidelines. Applicants must also lack another reasonably available source of hearing aid coverage or funding. Applicants above this income level may be considered individually when significant financial hardship makes hearing aids unaffordable. Income documentation may be requested.

Program Services
HAAP services may include:
- Hearing aid consultation and selection
- Hearing aid fitting and programming
- Follow-up hearing aid support appointments
Please note that the Speech & Hearing Clinic does not bill or accept insurance at this time.
Donations
The clinic accepts select donated hearing aids, that were originally prescribed or fit over the past 5 years, based on current program needs. Please contact the clinic before donating hearing devices.
