Overview

The Postbaccalaureate degree program is a state based program administered through UW Office of Admissions. Postbaccalaureate, or fifth year, students register for all courses and pay the established tuition and fees through the UW Registrar on a quarterly basis. Students in the Postbaccalaureate degree program are eligible for the same undergraduate student services as individuals in Washington state-funded programs. Financial aid is limited for postbaccalaureate students and typically in the form of student loans.

1) Non Refundable Deposit

Once accepted, all new students must submit a confirmation deposit (deposit amount updated soon) to the Office of Admissions to secure a space in the program. Initial acceptance notifications are emailed to students.  The mandatory deposit is due immediately at the time of acceptance. Entering postbaccalaureate students may not wait until financial aid is distributed to submit the deposit.

2) Instructional Fees / Tuition

Programs that are funded by the state of Washington have different "in-state" and "out-of-state" tuition rates. A student’s tuition rate for the degree program is dependent upon their residency status. Full time tuition rate/instructional fee is the same each quarter from 10 credits up to 18 credits of coursework. Part-time tuition rate varies based on total credit amount. The instructional (tuition) fee does not include the cost of UW fees, textbooks or materials and is subject to change.

3) University Fees

All UW students are responsible for the following University fees:

  • Building fee - A fee paid to offset security, maintenance and utilities (included in the tuition rate).
  • Student Technology fee - This fee supports the improvement of technology used by students at the University of Washington campuses. The Student Technology Fee Committee determines the expenditure of this fee. Students at the UW lead the committee, which allocates money for technology resources for general student use. The fee is paid quarterly.
  • Services & Activities (S&A) fee - This fee is a student levied and distributed fee to support and enhance student activities and programs at the UW, including the Associated Students of UW (ASUW), the Graduate and Professional Student Senate (GPSS), Campus Sustainability Fund, Childcare Assistance Program, Classroom Support Services, Counseling Center, Ethnic Cultural Center & Theater Complex, Hall Health Primary Care Center, Q Center, Recreational Sports Programs, Husky Union Building, Student Legal Services, and Student Publications. The fee is paid quarterly.
  • IMA Bond fee – This fee supports the expansion of the Intramural Activities (IMA) building and improvements to recreational sports programs facilities including construction of a multi-activity sports field and renovation of the golf driving range. The fee is paid quarterly.
  • U-Pass / Transportation fee – This fee is mandatory for all registered and enrolled UW Seattle campus students. Refunds on this fee are no longer available. The fee is paid quarterly.
  • Facilities Renovation Fee – This fee supports the UW Seattle campus renovations for the Husky Union Building (HUB), Ethnic Cultural Center and the Hall Health Primary Care Center. The fee is paid quarterly.

Postbaccalaureate Degree Program
Tuition & Fee Information

2023-2024 Academic Year

Please note that while the tuition rate has been finalized for the 2023-2024 academic year, the University of Washington has not yet finalized the fee schedule for the next academic year (2024-2025).  Below are the current tuition and fees and we expect the UW Planning and Budgeting Office to release the University fee schedule in July.

In the Postbaccalaureate degree program, students are charged tuition and fees each quarter of the program. Students are charged either a resident or non resident and a full time or part time tuition rate.

For the 2023-2024 academic year, the instructional fee/tuition for each program is outlined below. This tuition covers the required and elective SPHSC courses offered over each Postbac program's quarters, but is exclusive of textbooks, other materials and UW registration, technology, services and activities fees, which are set by the state of Washington and the UW Board of Regents. Please note that all UW students pay both tuition and fees while enrolled.

*International Students may be required to register for minimum number of credits and may need to add elective coursework.
