Who is doing the research?

Researchers in the Departments of Speech and Hearing Sciences and Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Washington, and Boston University-College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.

What is the research about?

The purpose of the project is to find a better way to measure severity of adductor laryngeal dystonia (adductor spasmodic dysphonia).

What will I be asked to do?

  • You will be asked to participate in 1 session, which will take less than 1 hour.
  • You will be asked to fill out questionnaires that ask about your communication.
  • You will be asked to participate in speech recordings.

Who can participate?

  • Adults who are fluent speakers of English,
  • Adults who are 18-100 years old,
  • Individuals who have been diagnosed with adductor laryngeal dystonia (adductor spasmodic dysphonia)

Will I be compensated?

  • You will receive $20.00 per hour for completing the session.
  • You will be paid at the end of the session.

Does participation affect any treatment you are receiving?

  • NO! Participation in this study is entirely independent of any medical treatment you may be receiving.
  • You are free to discontinue your participation in this study at any time.
