Who is doing the research?
Researchers in the Departments of Speech and Hearing Sciences and Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery.
What is the research about?
We are studying how accurate and reliable measures of voice and communication in speakers with and without vocal fold atrophy using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology.
What will I be asked to do?
· You will be asked to participate in 2-4 sessions each 1-2 hours in length.
· You may participate in a screening to confirm that you are eligible to participate.
· You will be asked to fill out questionnaires that ask about your communication and/or swallowing.
· You will be asked to participate in speech recordings.
· You will be asked to undergo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of your neck.
· You may be asked to undergo endoscopy to visualize your voice box.
Who can participate?
· Adults who are 18 years or older
· Adults who are fluent speakers of English
· Individuals who have been diagnosed with age-related vocal fold atrophy
Will I be compensated?
· You will receive $20.00 per hour for completing the sessions.
· You will be paid at the end of the sessions.
Does participation affect any treatment you are receiving?
· NO! Participation in this study is entirely independent of any medical treatment you may be receiving.
· You are free to discontinue your participation in this study at any time.
