PLOT:   Profiling Language Learning Over Time

A remote study on how children learn words in stories and the skills that support learning.

Help us understand how children learn, with a focus on autism and fragile X syndrome! Participation is from home via Zoom.

This research addresses how children learn - in this case, how children learn new vocabulary words in stories and how memory and attention relate to new learning! We are seeking autistic children (ages 5-10), children with fragile X syndrome (ages 5-10), or no developmental disabilities (ages 2-6).

General Frequently Asked Questions About the NeuDLL Lab

Q: Can I participate remotely?
A: Yes! Our current studies are fully remote. We send you a link to join a session from your device at home.

Q: What does this resarch accomplish?
A: Our research focuses on hearing directly from families and individuals with lived experience about their priorities. In some studies, we observe how children develop skills related to language and communication with the goal of eventually supporting those skills to help children achieve their best. Because of the design of our studies, we interpret results from groups of individuals. Although you would not receive individual results, study findings will be shared when they are available.

Q: What will you do with this research?
A: We will present results at professional conferences, in educational settings, and in published articles.

Q: If my child is the participant, will I be with them child during a study?
A: We want to be sure that both you and your child are comfortable during the study. If you are in the room with your child during study activities, we would still be interested in what your child does on his or her own and would talk with you about some strategies to work towards that.

Q: Can other children be present with me?
A: We are happy to work with your family's schedule and needs, including other children that might attend a visit. Other children can stay with you during study activities and we can talk with you in advance about what to expect and what we can do to make the visit go smoothly.
