CHARM — Connections through Holistic Academic Relationships for Mentoring
Speech and Hearing Sciences has launched a mentoring network to support its graduate students, with acknowledgement of the wide variety of backgrounds, identities, and experiences of these students. The network connects incoming master's students to faculty and community mentors, and to other students. In service of wellbeing and support, the program includes regular mentee-mentor meetings and quarterly events.
The CHARM program in Speech and Hearing Sciences is designed to support you through your graduate career!
Students in CHARM are connected with faculty and community mentors. The program provides structured opportunities for mentorship related to the SPHSC SLP graduate program and related to the field in general. CHARM participants also have the chance to interact with each other. A series of one-on-one conversations with mentors across the academic year provides the opportunity to ask questions, problem-solve, or simply share experiences. With minimal time requirements, the CHARM program is meant to maximize your experience at UW SPHSC through personal connections with people in the field who are invested in you!
CHARM is open to incoming master's students. We seek to support the graduate experience of students who identify with a wide variety of backgrounds, including 1st gen, neurodiverse, disabled, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, international, economically disadvantaged, historically marginalized backgrounds, and others. Expressing interest in CHARM via an online form is all that is needed for enrollment; we do not ask or attempt to verify individuals' specific backgrounds or identities. Come join us, all are welcome!
